Repair QR Stickers: Units That Stop Getting Mixed Up
The problem is never the first unit. It is the eighteenth.
Eighteen phones on a rack, some without cases, several the same brand, and the only thing telling them apart is a small slip of paper that has already fallen off twice and been taped back on. Every time someone asks “which one is Mrs Ani’s?”, somebody takes the rack apart.
QR stickers solve that in the most boring way possible: by attaching the identity to the object itself. What gets printed is not just text a person must read, but a code a machine can read — so finding the right job takes one scan from a phone.
You decide the contents yourself, exactly the way you set up receipts. A shop with a tight rack may be happy with the shortest preset: code and customer name. A workshop whose units are large and stay for days usually wants the full one — unit number, plate, a short fault description, rack number, and who is holding it.
One small detail decides a lot on the shop floor: the QR holds a plain search code, not a web address. That means the same code can be scanned by the phone app, or simply typed or pasted into any search box in the web app. One marker works for the technician carrying a phone and for the admin sitting at a desk.
Before you start
- A label printer or a 58mm/80mm receipt printer. You can also print to PDF first to test the sizing.
- Edit permission for the sticker settings, and view permission on repairs to print them.
Steps
-
Open Settings then Repairs then QR Sticker
This page is purely settings: choices on the left, a preview on the right that changes as you go. The backdrop is deliberately grey, and only the sticker paper is white — so the size never lies to you.
Settings on the left, the result on the right, instantly. -
Pick a preset before tuning anything yourself
There are five ready-made presets, from a 58mm sticker carrying only the code to an 80mm one carrying the fault and the technician name. Start from whichever is closest, then adjust what is missing.
Five presets cover almost every shop. -
Set the paper size and sticker height
Width follows 58mm or 80mm paper, while height, margins, line spacing and QR size are chosen from lists rather than typed. QR size also drives the header height, so change it gradually.
-
Choose the sticker contents line by line
Available lines include the search code, unit number, customer name, item, plate number, intake date, reported fault, rack number and technician. The plate line hides itself automatically if your shop handles no vehicles at all.
You choose what goes on the sticker, line by line. -
Set the number of copies and how it prints
Copies help if you attach one to the unit and one to the job card. Printing can go to PDF, USB, network or bluetooth — PDF is safest for testing sizes before spending paper.
-
Print the sticker from the repair list
Stickers print from the same place as receipts: the print options on the Repairs list now hold Standard, Thermal and QR Sticker. There is no separate page to memorise.
Stickers print from the same place as receipts. -
Attach it to the unit, not only to the job card
Its value shows when units pile up. The QR holds the plain search code, so besides scanning it from the phone app, the same content can be pasted into the search box of any menu in the web app.
-
Scan from a phone to open the job
A technician scans the sticker in the Android app, then picks the relevant action: take the job, view details, confirm with the customer, or hand it over. The same sticker settings apply when printing from the phone.
What you end up with
Every incoming unit carries a marker readable by both machine and eye, holding exactly what your shop needs, and one scan is enough to open the right job without searching a list.
If something goes wrong
The QR will not scan
Increase the QR size by one step. QR codes need clear space around them; codes that are too small or pressed against a divider line often fail, especially on thermal prints where ink spreads.
The sticker gets cut off when printing
The sticker height exceeds the paper loaded. Lower the height, or drop some of the content lines. Print to PDF first to confirm before trying the printer again.
The plate number line is missing and I need it
That line only appears if your shop has a vehicle-profile item type. Check your item type master data: if none is a vehicle profile, the app treats plate numbers as irrelevant for this shop.
Scanning the receipt QR gives something different from the sticker QR
They are different on purpose. The receipt QR holds a tracking address for the customer; the sticker QR holds the plain search code for internal use. Both are still recognised by the phone app.
